The
official minimum
thermometer is used to record the
minimum temperature during a certain period, normally
24 hours . It is used in
official observatories and is installed inside a
meteorological sentry box , preferably with a double blind and 1.5m from the ground.
The thermometer is installed in the
lower part of a
support with a foot or base, and is located
rectilinear or balanced . His capillary is filled with
alcohol , since this material is more sensitive to
low temperatures , not freezing. It has a range of -40 to + 40ºC and a resolution of 0.2ºC.
It may be that from the factory transport itself or from the shipment to the customer, a bubble appears in the official minimum thermometer, which is solved by shaking the thermometer with force and holding it firmly.
